Q: How do I get to Emory?

Getting from the Airport to Emory University

The Hartsfield/Atlanta Airport is located in the southwest section of the Atlanta Metropolitan area. Emory University is located in the northeast section, about one hour from the airport. The airport is one of the busiest in the United States, but it is not too difficult to navigate. When you arrive, follow signs to the terminal where you will pick up your luggage, arrange for ground transportation, etc. The terminal has two wings, Terminal-North and Terminal- South, connected by a corridor. If you are not told where your luggage may be picked up, look for your airline (Delta is South). Once you have your luggage, make arrangements for transportation to campus if you haven’t already arranged for someone to meet you at the airport. Follow the signs "To Ground Transportation" which will take you past the MARTA Rail Station and outside the terminal.

DRIVING

I75-I85 North - When Interstate branches, take I-85 North Exit Clairmont Rd. Right on Clairmont (go about 3.75 miles) Right on North Decatur Rd. Right on Clifton Rd. Rehab Center on your right (1441 Clifton Rd) at the corner of Clifton and Haygood, just past Egelston Children’s Hospital.

TAXI

A taxicab is the most expensive though probably simplest, option (approximately $25 to $40).

SHUTTLE BUS

A more economical alternative is the Atlanta Airport Shuttle at $18, which must be paid in cash or traveler's checks. Once you exit the terminal look for the Atlanta Airport Shuttle kiosk/office at the far left end of the Ground Transportation Island. This service operates every day from 7:00 am to 10:30 pm with departures for Emory (approximately every 20 minutes), but suggests reservations before 7:00 am or after 6:30 pm. The "Northeast/Northwest/Emory Shuttle" makes four stops in the Emory area. For information and reservations, call (404)524-3400 or (800)842-2770.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

An even more economical, though slightly more difficult and time-consuming option is public transportation: MARTA (Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority). In the terminal, follow signs to "MARTA Rail Station and "Ground Transportation”. Just before the doors which take you outside of the terminal, you'll see the MARTA rail station entrance (on your left from Terminal-North, on your right from Terminal-South). Here you can buy a token for $1.75 from a machine which allows you to pass through the gate/turnstile and proceed to the platform and board the train. Attendants are on duty at the information windows and can provide additional information. MARTA maps are also available in the station. Only one train, the northbound train leaves the airport (approximately every 5 minutes). You will have to take the train to one of the bus stations, get a green transfer card (so you don’t have to pay again), and then take a bus to Emory. The easiest route is to exit the train at Lindberg Station. From there take Bus#6.

It operates every day from 5:00 am until midnight and stops in front of the Rehab Center. You may call MARTA at (404)848-4800 or access the MARTA web page at http://www.itsmarta.com for additional information. Call our office at 404-712-5507 if you have trouble.
