This is an unprecedented time for the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, the School of Medicine and the Emory University community as a whole. A common goal has been set for us all to provide national leadership in clinical care. The Woodruff Health Sciences Center, which houses all components at Emory responsible for the education of health professionals, research affecting health and illness, patient care, and policies for prevention and treatment of disease, has five new Centers of Excellence designed to promote a patient-focused service culture as well as developing collaborations between clinicians and researchers that will benefit patients. The Health Science Center now has a new Global Health Institute focused on prevention and cure of diseases in our country and in all countries and the Center for Health Discovery and Well-Being will open soon on the Emory Midtown Campus.
The emphasis on clinical care, health, prevention, and rehabilitation is echoed in Doctor of Physical Therapy Program's own changes with the offering of dual degree opportunities - DPT-MBA and, soon, the DPT-MPH, and of new electives such as creative therapeutic interventions, the business of health, sports medicine, and wellness. Our goal is to create an environment that will foster inquisitiveness, knowledge, leadership, and expertise and in which students will develop the tools necessary to use those traits all their lives.
