Background and Biography: Dale C. Strasser, M.D. is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine, where he directs the residency training program. He is the Atlanta VA site Research Director for the Birmingham / Atlanta GRECC. He completed Medical School (1984), Internship (1985), and Residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (1988) at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois, and did Fellowships in Arthritis and Orthopedic Rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (1988) and in Geriatric Medicine at Northwestern School of Medicine (1990). His major areas of research are rehabilitation treatment effectiveness, with a special interest in rehabilitation teams, and geriatric rehabilitation. He is completing a VA Merit Review sponsored national clinical trial in process improvement which tests whether stroke patient outcomes are improved through enhanced team functioning. He has GRECC pilot funding to investigate methods to promote urinary continence of disabled individuals. Previous work has focused on nursing home residents and the association of cognitive abilities to outcomes following a hip fracture. Dr. Strasser is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Association for Academic Phhysitarist. He has worked on several national VA panels and committees in rehabilitation, including an expert panel to develop guidelines in Stroke Rehabilitation. He is an Editorial Board member of the Archives in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Topics in Stroke Rehabilitation, and reviews for several other journals in rehabilitation, aging, and geriatrics.
